Bodybuilding Competition – Rules and Regulations
Please read carefully before applying. Failure to follow any of these guidelines can be ground for disqualification.
As a future ambassador of IATB, you will be required to maintain an annual membership at $30/year. You will then receive a membership card which will allow you to compete at any IATB event. Your membership must always remain active in order to compete. Membership comes with many benefits. Sign up today to become a member.
The entry fee is $50 per competition.
Annual membership and entry fees are non-refundable.
All competitors are allowed to bring one assistant or trainer with them backstage. Depending on the number of competitors and space limitations, we might limit the time allowed backstage.
All competitors must wear underwear no longer than 6 inches. If you haven’t had top surgery yet, wear anything you’re comfortable with that shows the abdomen muscles. You may wear a packer if you feel comfortable to do so, but it is not a requirement.
Your music must be turned in at the latest, 24 hours before the pre-judging event. Failure to do so will result to the DJ picking a random song for you.
Your music can absolutely not contain any lyrics considered racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic or with any sort of profanity in it. The best rule of thumb is to ask if it would offend or make a certain group of people uncomfortable. If the answer is yes, then it probably doesn’t meet the criteria. All songs should be cut exactly to 90 seconds.
Because there are many different kinds of tanning sprays and skin tones, and because we don’t know each competitor’s allergic reaction or tolerance, we ask that you bring your own tanning spray if you’d like to use some. Tanning spray is not required but it helps the judges and the crowd to see muscle definition better.
Please refrain from tanning backstage! We rent these locations and are often responsible for cleanup and damage. The head judge recommends tanning 24 hours prior to the show. If you’d like to still tan before the show, please do so outside of the premises to avoid stains. Failure to do so will result in a fine.
Categories are subject to change depending on the number of competitors.
There will be 3 categories: lightweight (up to and including 145 pounds), middleweight (146 pounds and up to and including 165 pounds) and heavyweight (over 165 pounds).
You can compete whether you’re on hormone replacement therapy or not, or pre-op or not.
You will be judged based on 5 criteria: Mass, Definition, Proportion, Symmetry and Stage Presence.
There will be a pre-judging event and the actual competition show on the same day. The pre-judging event is where the judging actually occurs. The show is for public viewing and entertainment; the winner will be announced at the evening show.
